Our Programs | Blood Donation & SCD Screening in Tanzania
School Blood Donation & Awareness Campaign
Empower Tanzania’s youth to become lifelong blood donors. Our School Blood Donation and Awareness Campaign is designed specifically for secondary school and college students, beginning at the Transition Year level. We guide young Tanzanians through their first donation experience with clarity and confidence, explaining why blood transfusions are essential and how their single act can save up to three lives. Through personal stories from young donors and recipients, interactive quizzes, and engaging games, we turn education into action. The program provides teachers and health professionals with a complete, ready-to-use lesson plan to inspire the next generation of voluntary blood donors in Tanzania.
Community Blood Donation Outreach Programs
Bringing lifesaving services directly to communities across Tanzania. Our Community Blood Donation Outreach Programs strengthen Tanzania’s blood supply system by meeting people where they live, work, and worship. We set up mobile donation units in markets, religious institutions, and community gatherings—breaking down barriers caused by myths and misinformation. These programs educate community members about eligibility, safety, and the direct impact of their donation, while making the process convenient and accessible. This localized approach significantly increases voluntary participation and ensures a stable blood supply, especially in underserved and hard-to-reach areas of Tanzania.
Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) Screening Program
Early detection saves lives and builds healthier communities in Tanzania. Our Sickle Cell Disease Screening Program is crucial for early diagnosis, enabling prompt intervention and treatment that can prevent life-threatening complications. By managing SCD effectively from the start, we reduce emergency hospital visits and long-term health burdens on Tanzanian families and the healthcare system. Integrated with our blood donation education, screening programs also help educate communities, reduce stigma, and promote understanding of how SCD is inherited and managed. Together, we’re working toward a future where every Tanzanian has access to early screening and sustainable care.
